We should not judge people by their peak of excellence; but by the distance they have traveled from the point where they started.

Reading History ...

I have been reading a lot of books and articles related to historical figures lately. I have read books on Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Vivekanand, Ambedkar, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Gandhiji, Karl Marx etc..

All these historical figures give a different perspective of looking at different problems that the current society faces. Most of these reading were made so that I could understand how these different figures thought, their decision making abilities, their ways of thinking.

I get too many questions daily and such readings help as they keep me motivated that yes, I am thinking on the correct path and my questions are valid and soon there would be answers to the questions that I have in my mind. Its a big relief.

One good observation about history books is, many of these books are written by ardent followers and many times tend to get biased towards the figure. A good books should question the person from different angle and be able to portray him in as much rational manner as possible.

History is important. It gives us lot of teachings and revisiting it some times in between could solve lot of unsolved questions that occur to many people in daily life. Point is how to find the correct context to look for. Its a tough question, but soon with enough practice people get used to the exercise and could get the correct directions.
